What about Juices?
Juices smoothies fall in a similar category. They are healthy, and much healthier than most of the things people eat every day.
Juices can be made with fruits and/or vegetables, and they can be grouped in a few groups. First, we have the worst type of juices, which are processed by large companies in search of profits. These are made using massive machines moving at high speeds. These juices are likely to contain preservatives, colorants, extra sugar, and artificial flavors. They are sold in stores, and are likely to sit in shelves for weeks before consumption. Their nutritional value is the worse out of all juices available to us. These are the most consumed juices in the world, especially by children. There are a few alternative options that are organic and fresher, but they aren’t ideal.
The next better option is to buy juice from a local juicery that makes them as they are ordered. Even better than that would be to make them at home, with produce you chose yourself. Both of these are excellent options, but we must remember not all juicers are made the same way.
There are regular juicers, which most people use, and there are masticating juicers which health aficionados use. Regular juicers have high speed blades that break down the food to a juice consistency, they cause the most oxygenation and nutrient loss. Masticator juicers are slower, and don’t involve metal blades, allowing for better preservation of nutrients.
