Reversing Cavities with Diet

Reversing Cavities with Diet

Almost everyone in the dentistry world, and most of the population, believe tooth decay and cavities are irreversible. The standard protocol for managing a cavity is to fill it up and hope the decay won’t continue. Perhaps no different from sweeping dirt under the carpet. At the same time, there are studies published on the British Medical Journal suggesting cavities and tooth decay can be healed and reversed with diet. (1)

One of these studies included 62 children with cavities. The subjects were divided into three different diet groups. Group 1 ate the normal diet plus oatmeal (rich in phytic acid). Group 2 consumed the same normal diet but supplemented it with vitamin D. Group 3 ate a grain-free diet while taking the vitamin D supplements.

The results showed that in group 1, the oatmeal prevented healing and encouraged new cavities, presumably due to its tendency to prevent mineral absorption. In group 2, adding vitamin D to the subject’s diet caused most cavities to heal, and fewer to form. The most striking effect was in group 3, the one eating a grain-free diet supplemented with vitamin D. In this group, nearly all cavities healed, and few new cavities developed. (2)

You can also find many testimonials online from people who have improved their teeth health on fruit-based diets and raw vegan diets. These people have shared how these diets helped their teeth become whiter and stronger. Some of them have gone as far as stating that their cavities naturally filled up by eating more fruit.
