Reduce Your Consumption of Animal Flesh
The first and easiest step is to reduce our consumption of animal flesh. It is clear we don’t need it for good health. This is the easiest step because, out of all the steps in this transition, it is the most widely accepted. It is also the easiest, because it still leaves the door open for countless options of things you can eat.
Reducing and eliminating animal flesh from our diet is good for our health, and the environment. Harvard School of Public Health has mentioned that red meat raises the risk for colon cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other health problems, making it likely to shorten our life. They go as far as saying that “the idea of healthy meat consumption has become an oxymoron”. (1) It is well know that meat is destroying the environment by wasting tons of water, creating massive pollution, and deforestation.
Every bite of flesh we take out of our month is a step closer to a better world. We don’t need to stop our consumption of flesh completely to improve life on earth, but the more we do it, the better we’ll be. If you can’t remove animal flesh from your diet, try minimizing it. Perhaps only eating it when its offered to you, or in special occasions.
It is likely that as you reduce your consumption of flesh, you will start to feel better, inspiring you to eventually letting go of it completely. If your starting point includes meal consumption in every meal, try having a meal when you don’t eat flesh. If you eat it only once a day, try eliminating it a few days a each week. Soon you will realize you don’t need to eat dead corpses to enjoy your meals and feel good.
