Pushing the Boundaries of our Bodies
The next steps are into the unthinkable, and the unknown. At this point we are well beyond should and shouldn’t. The following sections are meant to continue expanding our mind as we reveal the amazing powers of the human body. We live in a word of infinite possibilities. Much of what we once thought impossible is now common knowledge.
Almost everyone thinks that it is impossible to live without water. Most scientists agree, that a week is the longest any human can live without it. On the other hand, there are people who believe a healthy person can live up to 12 days without water. Only a tiny fraction of the population think humans don’t need any water at all.
Scientists insist that for humans to stay healthy, we must maintain water balance. This means that water losses in our body must be recuperated with water intake.
We lose water by sweating and urinating. We also lose water each time we exhale. If that lost water is not replaced, blood volume may drop and body temperature may rise.(1) This can be a life-threatening situations. Even more so, once the body is deprived of fluids, the cells and organs in the body begin to deteriorate. This is why it is so important to stay hydrated during the day. That’s just another reason for everyone to include more fruit in their diet.
We also know that there are exceptions to all theories formed by scientific research. For example, World Guinness Record holder Andreas Mihavecz, spent 18 days with no food or liquids. This happened in April 1979 when he was forgotten in a prison cell by three policemen. (2)
