Making it Work

It is possible to live a long and happy life eating junk food. Maybe the planet can tolerate it for a few more years. That’s not the life I want, but it may satisfy other people.

To offer some contrast, I know my grandfather lived eating heavy meals late at night. He consumed lots of alcohol and cigarettes, to go along with his travels and love affairs. He lived until old age and died in a car accident. His dietary choices didn’t seem to hold him back. Maybe it was his “good genetics”, or his love for life.

We can never know how someone’s lifestyle will affect their health, but we can listen to science, and make our own experiments. Trying a fruit based diet, even for just a week or two, may expose the true effects of animal products and cooked foods on our health. If we never change our perspective, we won’t be able to see things in a new light.

Some people are better at sticking to a new diet, just like others may be better at keeping up with an exercise routine, or a new relationship. Just because some people can’t stick to a fruit based diet, that doesn’t mean we can’t. Several people have followed a fruit only diet for many months. For example, Dr. Robert Morse ate nothing but oranges for six months, one of his patients had nothing but grapes for a whole year.

Will-power is huge when it comes to making this switch. Quality of fruit, environmental conditions, and the people surrounding us will have their effect too. Those who set themselves up for success in the appropriate environment, and with the right support system, are more likely to succeed on raw vegan and fruit based diets. Low quality fruit is surely the number one reason people fail to follow diets based on fruit.

There is a huge deal of variety on earth, but there is a limit to how much raw, local, ripe, juicy, whole, organic fruit we can get. We may need to compromise from time to time. Perhaps we would have an easier time living in tropical and sub-tropical places like Hawaii and Thailand. My hope is that advancements in consciousness and technology will bring an abundance of healthy fruits, making them available to the entire global population.

At the end of the day, changing our mindset is the first step. We need to bring more presence to our dinning space and chose the food that is best. Learn to be present with every bite and grateful for the gift of life.
