Keeping an Open Mind
As we dive deeper into the wonderful properties of fruit and the potential they hold for a better world, we must remain rooted in reality, and hold a realistic perspective. We know it’s easy to get too excited with these ideas and overlook fundamental challenges. We can imagine the beauty of a world where there is no violence. It is a splendid vision, but as we asses our current condition, we find substantial difficulties.
How can we grow gardens and fruit trees without killing weeds and invasive plants? How do we harvest bananas efficiently without cutting the palm tree? What are we supposed to do about all the insects we kill when we travel? Can we live without an immune system that is constantly killing germs?
Some of these questions are more practical than others, but they all point to the same problem. Perhaps this is an unsolvable riddle. Maybe we are destined to live in a world of ever present aggression and suffering, or maybe we just need some time, and our collective intention, to solve these predicaments.
