Invest in Peace, not War

According to Major General Jeffrey Snow, recruiting 6,000 people in 2017 costed the U.S. Army $200 million for incentive bonuses and $100 million in advertising expenses. (1) Think about this and remember that supply leads demand, and demand leads supply. Tell enough teenagers they can get $30,000 for joining the Army, and soon you’ll have 6,000 recruits. Were those kids independently looking to enlist? Or did cool-looking commercials sell them a deceiving dream?

Imagine if instead of spending all that money recruiting people for a death machine, we gave the same incentives to 6,000 kids to learn about fruit cultivation. Don’t you think we would have different results? Some argue that a strong military is essential for national security. What we truly need is world peace.

When we put all these pieces together we understand that the more people we have consuming fruit, the higher the demand will be. The more demand we create, the larger the supply will be. Markets and businesses would soon have to adjust, investing more time and resources in the production of fruit. This would lead to improvements in technological tools that help with growing and harvesting process, allowing us to improve quality, increase quantity, and reduce costs.

Some people are more interested in virtual reality than fruit cultivation. Others are fascinated with 3D printers and high speed jets. Every person has their own perspective and priorities. Everyone has their own opinion about where our resources should go. As far as I know, health and sustainable food practices should be at the top of our list. I hope we can all aim on the same direction, focusing on technological advances that benefit humanity, and all life on earth.
