Healthy Approaches to Fruit Based Diets

When considering a fruit based diet, there are few choices better than fresh, juicy, ripe, and whole, organic fruit. When it comes to fruit, we can often eat as much as we want and our body will tell us when it is time to stop.

That being said, we need to be careful with overeating, and specially careful with eating too many dried or fatty fruits. The low water content in those options make them harder to digest, and their high sugar and fat content may wreak havoc on your digestion. It is recommended to be cautious, and avoid eating too many dried fruits and fatty fruits.

It is always best to eat fruit on its own. That means we should avoid eating fruit after a large meal, no matter what it is we previously ate. The timing of our fruit meal depends on what our last meal contained. If we ate animal products, we want to wait 2 to 4 hours before consuming fruit. If we had some cooked food, 1 to 2 hours may be enough space before consuming fruit. If we had a salad or raw vegetables, we might get away with waiting an hour before our fruit meal. There are different opinions on food transit times, some people like to double these numbers to feel extra safe.

There are also several rules for combining different fruits in a single meal. We will talk more about this in later sections. For now, just remember that, when it comes to choosing fruit, we always want to pick the fruit we love most. There is no need to eat something we don’t like. When possible, it is recommended to choose fresh, juicy, ripe, and whole, organic fruit.

Always get the best produce available and sample it before you buy it. There is nothing worse than spending a bunch of money on bad produce. As we continue to Give Fruit a Chance, our preferences will change, and our taste buds will adapt to receive greater appreciation from eating fruit.
