Fruit is Beneficial During and After Pregnancy
There is plenty of information available on the benefits of fruit consumption during and after pregnancy. These come from scientist and from women with firsthand experience.
Research points that vitamins and minerals are the main reason to consume fruit during and after pregnancy. Antioxidants may help protect the baby’s cells from damage caused by harmful compounds present in the environment. Vitamin E is thought to prevent wheezing and asthma. Citruses may reduce the risk of childhood eczema. Vitamin C is also important for normal immune protection and formation of healthy connective tissue. Potassium helps to maintain blood pressure. Folic acid helps reduce the risk of brain and spinal cord defects. Calcium contributes to your baby’s developing bones and teeth. Appropriate caloric intake also plays a big role in fetus development. (1)
We also know that beta carotene is good for the baby’s cell and tissue development, vision, and immune system. Vitamin A can improve our baby’s immune system and reduce the risk of complications like diarrhea and respiratory infections. Choline is important for our baby’s brain and nerve development.
Fruit helps with the baby’s development while it is in the womb, and helps relieve many symptoms that women face during pregnancy. There are women who report that iron, potassium and magnesium, as found in avocados, help relieve nausea and leg cramps. Lemons are known to relieve nausea during pregnancy and they help stimulate the digestive system to relieve constipation, a discomfort that every other woman experiences during pregnancy. (2)
