Experiments with Fruit Based Diets
To remain honest and transparent, I must admit that to this day, I personally have struggled to build muscle on a fruit based diet. To be fair and clear, I also struggled building muscle on every diet I tried. It’s likely that my lack of success in building muscle is due to inconsistency, more than the input I give to my body. That being said, my body looks and feels best when I follow a raw vegan or fruit-based diet. I am confident that soon I will be able to find more regular training and get better results.
When I got into fruitarianism, I thought that building a muscular physique would be the ultimate proof that we can thrive on a fruit based diet. I remember listening to dozens of videos from Michael Arnstein, and understanding everything he shared. At the same time, it’s probably easier to be an ultra-marathon runner eating nothing but fruit, than an impressive bodybuilder on the same diet.
That being said, I know muscle building with fruit is possible, and I look forward to experiencing more of this in my own body. So far I haven’t had the chance to train for long enough, while consuming mostly fruit, and record my progress. This doesn’t mean I have not experienced benefits from training on raw vegan and fruit-based diets. It simply mean I personally need more consistency, and we collectively need more data to support this idea.
Fortunately, there are people who had the chance to go on long streaks and record their results from this diet. These are the people who inspired me to start the Fruitarian Bodybuilder project. My goal is to use that platform to share information, on my progress, and the progress of other people who practice fruitarian bodybuilding.
To be clear, these people may not look like the typical bodybuilder we see today with excessive musculature. As far as I am concerned, a bodybuilder is anyone who focuses on training their musculature to show their progress to the world. Bodybuilders don’t need to be pros, or competitors, their intention to build their body to impress others makes them a bodybuilder by definition. This practice refers back to the times of ancient Greek athletes, many of whom ate considerable quantities of fruit.
My guess and hope is that we’ll soon have more people interested in fruit-based diets, and more people studying the relationship between fruit consumption, and performance.
An increased in the population following a fruit based diet, will highlight those natural athletes who have the time and dedication to build impressive bodies eating mostly fruit. They are the ones who will prove the world that fruitarian bodybuilding is possible, and that muscle growth on a fruit-based diet is a simple fact. If you are interested in success stories I recommend looking at YouTube videos from Michael Arnstein, Mike Vlasaty, Coach OG, John Rose, Vegetable Police, Freelee the Banana Girl, and Tedd Car from Fruitliving.
