Dry Fasting for Healing

Animals are known to use dry fasting for healing. When wounded or sick, they retreat for rest, and refuse to take any food or water until their health improves. It is likely that humans had the same instinct, before advances in civilization made food and “medicine” easily accessible. Now, our nutritional choices are more based on culture, than biological sensations or natural instincts.

Once again, I am not advising you to try living without food or water. I am sharing these stories to prove that we don’t need as much food as most people think we do. At the same time, its likely that dry fasting could improve our health. Especially when done over short periods of time (1 to 4 days).

It’s understood that during a dry fast, our bodies produce their own nutrients and water. Through this process, endogenous and metabolic water are produced by metabolizing fat tissue. Our skin changes its function, from an organ of elimination to one of absorption. Our body begins to use atmospheric carbon dioxide and nitrogen to manufacture their own amino acids. This process is believed to be incredibly healing, and could be a useful tool for detoxification as we transition to a fruit based diet.

Additional testimonials and results show that dry fasting may be useful to decrease inflammation, stimulate the immune system, purify the blood, clear blood vessels, cleanse the GI tract, and renew its mucosal lining. Dry fasting is also believed to eliminate parasites and promote regeneration of healthy tissues. There are claims of people who have seen cysts and benign tumors shrink, and even disappear, during a dry fast.
