Dealing with Toxins
The subject of detoxification is extremely complex, and one of the most debated topics in the diet world. Some people say it is essential for optimal health, and others wave it off as pseudoscience.
In theory, detoxification is the process in which our bodies get rid of toxins and waste products. These substances accumulate in our bodies through contact with air, water, soil, chemical compounds, and food. Detoxification also happens at the cellular level, where each living cell is getting rid of the waste it produces, through its individual metabolic processes.
Unhealthy food, cellular waste, dirty water, and poor air quality, are the biggest sources of toxicity for most people. We can see this by observing health statistics on fast-food lovers, people who don’t have access to clean water, and those living in massive clouds of pollution, such as in Beijing and Mexico City.
The concept of cellular waste is unknown to the average person. The reason is that we can’t see cellular waste the same way we see excrement in the toilet.
Cellular waste is found in the body’s lymphatic system. This is the sewer system for our cells waste. It is essential, without its proper function, waste accumulation can be lethal.
