Coming Back to Nature
I hope everyone reading this book believes we should take other’s well-being into consideration when we act. Simultaneously, there may be times when we must place our needs above the needs of others. That is why all societies have laws and rules of conduct: Do not steal, do not lie, do not kill, and so on.
Back in the days when human communities were much smaller, social responsibility was more present in our lives. In the same way, when humans were living in nature, caring for the environment was common sense, and just as important as caring for each other. Animals and plants, mountains and rivers, they where all seen as sacred, and recognized as unique conscious beings.
In our modern, overpopulated, and highly technological world, moral and social values are disappearing. We are losing our connection with each other, nature, and even with ourselves. We have conflict in every continent, poverty and hunger affecting billions of people, our environment is at risk. The damage is so severe that many people think we are beyond the point of no return. I believe it is our selfish attitude and disregard for others, that has brought humanity to this point. I also believe the only way to move forward is to care for each other, again and again.
It is very possible that fruit-based diets are the best solution for our health and the environment. This is why it is important to Give Fruit a Chance. It is our responsibility to do all we can to ensure a healthy and joyful life for ourselves, our children, brothers, sisters and all beings living on earth. We need each other, and the ecosystem needs our help. The future of all living beings is in our collective hands.
I invite you to keep an open mind and continue to read, as we explore why, and how, fruit-based diets can help us heal the world. Even if we can’t eat a diet based on fruit alone, we can make a huge difference by eating as much fruit as possible. Limiting our intake of animal products and processed foods is another key factor. There are additional ways to improve our health, our community, and the environment, through changing our habits and our actions. We will review these deeply in the following chapters.
