Buying Organic
There is a huge debate on whether or not organic produce is healthier than conventional produce. The conversation is endless.
On one hand, there is a growing number of people who realize that organic produce is healthier for their bodies, and better for the environment. On the other hand, there are those who believe organic produce is just as good as conventional produce and in some cases, worse.
Organic farmers will always support organic growing practices, and conventional producers will always support conventional produce. Many people on the conventional industry talk about the organic movement as a fad or a marketing strategy. Many organic farmers think conventional growers are straight up evil. The truth is always in between, we must bring balance to the force.
Unfortunately, not everyone has access to organic food. Most cities in developed countries lack an appropriate selection of organic produce, and most citizens around the world can’t even afford them due to their higher prices. It saddens me to see, that most of the people with the means to afford organic produce, end up using convenient options, due to misinformation, and lack of trust in the superiority of organic produce.
There are countless studies in favor, and against, organic produce. They completely oppose each other, some are trust worthy, and others aren’t. We also have to consider differences in soil quality, growing practices, products used during the growing process, and the potential short term and long-term effects they can have on our health, and the health of our planet.
In my opinion, organic produce is better for our health, the environment, and the economy. Organic growing practices resonate with my values, and feel better than conventional growing practices.
You can always go for non-organic plant based options when organic produce is unavailable, or too expensive. My hope is that demand for healthier fruits and vegetables will mobilize businesses to focus on this quality.
