Athletes Thriving on Fruit
Every athlete can benefit from adding fruit to their diet. The results will vary depending on quantity, quality, and the sport the athlete is training to excel on. A long-distance runner is likely benefit more from a fruit-based diet than a professional sumo wrestler.
We already mentioned examples such as Douglas Graham, an athlete and doctor, who followed a fruit-based diet comprising at least 80% of calories derived from carbohydrates. We also mentioned Michael Arnstein. His intake of fruit was about 95% of total calories when he was competing, and many times winning, ultra-marathons. Another man thriving on a fruit-based diet is Orvel Douglas. He is a popular fruitarian bodybuilder who uploads pictures of his impressive musculature on Facebook. He has inspired hundreds of people to participate in his month-long, fruit-fast challenges.
There are dozens of amateur athletes we could add to this list. My goal is to research and educate people on fruit-based diets, hoping that we will soon have enough people interested in performing double-blinded, peer-reviewed research. This would provide substantial insight on the benefits of training on a fruit-based diet.
Every day we get closer to seeing more fruit-based bodybuilders around the world. A few years ago vegan bodybuilders were unheard of, and now their pictures are flooding the Internet. There are countless photos, videos, and inspiring stories for anyone to indulge on. Raw vegan bodybuilders are more rare, but you can still find their impressive results. It is just a matter of time before fruit-based bodybuilders become known and respected in the bodybuilding industry.
