Personal Transformation
In 2013, I left my desk jobs as a data analyst and independent consultant, to become a yoga teacher and massage therapist. My new carrier required me to spend most of my time on my feet, teaching classes and giving massages.
These changes increased the amount of daily movement I performed daily, sometimes spending as much as 10 hours moving on my feet, teaching yoga, training, practicing, and giving massages. As I continued to live this way, my body fat percentage went down, and I became more athletic.
Not everyone needs that much movement every day, but most people need more than what they are doing. Most people would enjoy dedicating more time to hike, play with their kids, or go swimming in the ocean. Its important to make time for ourselves. Sometimes 30 minutes is all we got, but if we are feeling tired and lethargic from heavy meals, we won’t even do that.
Raw vegan and fruit based diets are often much simpler than their counterparts. This allows for more time and for physical activities. Gym membership and personal trainers are not required. We can exercise at home, or go to the nearest park. Going for a daily 30-minute walk is extremely beneficial, and it’s free.
We usually feel better when we spend a few hours a day playing with our bodies. Even a little is better than nothing. We don’t need not train like an Olympian to get in good shape and experience vibrant health.
During my time living in Hawaii I didn’t teach much yoga and only gave a handful massages. My exercise time came through working in a fruit farm, cutting cane grass with a machete and moving wheel barrels loaded with fruit. In my free time I lifted weights at the farm’s mini-gym, went on walks, runs, and short cycling trips.
I also practiced yoga, qigong, Foundation Training, and other forms of body weight exercises. I love these practices because they are accessible anytime, anywhere. I encourage everyone to find the exercises that are most enjoyable and beneficial to them, and practice these daily.
