Where to Eat
It is best to eat sitting in a peaceful place. It doesn’t matter if we sit on a chair or on the ground, but we want to keep an upright posture during our meal. Slouching, although comfortable, compresses our viscera and reduces the space available for digestion. If sitting upright is challenging for you, then I recommend you practice Foundation Training and yoga, to improve your posture and keep yourself upright during your meals.
Try eating in a quiet place, where distractions are minimal. I understand there are social events that include eating in places with loud music, or lots of people talking. Its probably no big deal to eat in these types of environments occasionally. However, eating in stressful environments, meal after meal, is likely to be detrimental to our ability to absorb, digest, and assimilate food.
Perhaps the most ideal place to eat is in nature, outside, under the sunshine, sitting in the grass, or under a tree. Natural environments are more conductive to peaceful digestion. Imagine eating a bunch of oranges, or some apples picked straight from the tree. Doesn’t that image bring peace and joy to your soul? There is nothing fresher than eating fruit straight from the plant. It might be the best way to feed ourselves.
Of course, most people don’t have access to fruit trees or natural settings. Maybe we live in cement jungles like New York City, where green spaces are rare. Even still, we might find a nearby quiet park, where we can sit in peace to enjoy our meals, or maybe we can create a tranquil environment, in the comfort of our home.
