More on Intermittent Fasting
The truth is that sometimes it is best to avoid eating, than to eat at the wrong time and for the wrong reasons. Sometimes we choose to eat in a rush, because we are on our way to a class, an important meeting, or a fancy date.
When we eat like that, we don’t make enough time for our bodies to properly digest and assimilate our food. Some people think it is best to eat early in the morning, even if they are not hungry, because they fear they will be hungry later in the day.
Perhaps our main problem is that we don’t know what true hunger is, or what it feels like. There are a number of things that people usually confuse with hunger. One of them is appetite.
People will see or think about a certain food, and then notice a desire for it. In this case, they are mistaking appetite for true hunger. In other cases, people are unconsciously bored or anxious, and they use the excuse of hunger to distract themselves from facing those emotions. More often than not, what people perceive as hunger, is nothing more than digestive processes in their belly.
With intermittent fasting, we can aim for late breakfasts and early dinners, keeping our number of meals to one or two per day. At first, this approach may seem extreme and stressful. We can always start with our breakfast at 6 a.m., and slowly move it to a later time. We can also approach this lifestyle while we are still finishing dinner after 9 pm. The most important thing here is to set goals and move towards them.
In this world there is good and bad, better and worse. We try to do the best, with what we have, and where we are. There is no need to beat ourselves up if we struggle to keep up with these new practices.
This book is full of tips, advice, and new information. We can’t expect to be simply jump on board, and follow them perfectly. We need to remember that we are human. We don’t know everything, and making changes in our life tends to be challenging. We want to continue striving towards perfection, while accepting our imperfection.
