Thriving on Fruit Based Diets
We know humans are considered omnivores because we can gather energy, and nutrients, from animals, plants, algae, fungi, and bacteria. That being said, modern research continues to prove that all animal products can be detrimental to our health, and, as far as I know, there are no humans sustaining themselves on nothing but algae, fungi, or bacteria. This means that plants are the only food group that has the potential to keep us healthy for a lifetime, without the need to steal from animals.
In fact, we know of countless individuals who have lived and thrived on strict plant-based diets. Some of them have done it for their entire life. We also know of multiple individuals who have sustained themselves on nothing but fruit.
For example, Mango Wodzak and his partner Kvetta Martinec, have been on a fruit-only diet for over 20 years. (1) Anne Osborne has also been on a fruit-only diet for more than 20 years, and her son Cappi who is now 12 years old, was born and raised on a fruit-based diet. (2)
All of them seem to enjoy excellent health.
Furthermore, there are people who have thrived eating nothing but a single type of fruit for long periods of time. On her book “Fruitarianism the Path to Paradise”, Anne Osborne shares how she did multiple mono-fruit fasts throughout her 22 years as a fruitarian. For example, in 2010, Anne ate nothing but orange juice for 84 days. In 2015 she did the same thing for 81 days and in 2001 she spent six months eating nothing but melons. (3) When I was in Hawaii, I spent two entire weeks eating nothing but papayas, I truly felt amazing. Would love to try an entire month, or more, eating nothing but fruit.
Other examples include Dr. Douglas Graham and Dr. Robert Morse. The later claims to have spent six months living on nothing but oranges, and has recommended mono-fruit fasts to hundreds of his patients. These patients’ reports are absolutely amazing. You can find their stories on Dr. Morse’s book “The Detox Miracle Sourcebook” and throughout his YouTube channel. Dr. Douglas Graham has shared similar stories, found in his book “The 80/10/10 Diet”.
A few decades ago, proving these people’s stories, and their results, would have been impossible. Today, we can confirm these statements and the benefit of fruit-based diets by doing a few Google searches or visiting social media channels like YouTube and Facebook. Online, you will find huge communities of people who improved their health and well-being with fruit-based diets.
Modern science continues to prove that fruit is one of the most nutrient rich food sources in the world. Fruit contains high levels of fiber, vast amounts of carbohydrates, and might contain every vitamin and mineral our bodies need. Most fruits are also high on water content, very useful, considering that the human body is composed of 60% to 80% water. In contrast to fruit, there is little water, if any, in animal products and cooked foods.
