Air Purification Systems
Air may be the most important resource we have. It is the only thing we are constantly consuming, every moment of every day. Unfortunately, this precious resource is becoming scarce on its pure form. Mexico City and Beijing are some of the scariest examples of how much pollution there is in major cities. These problems often extend to smaller cities as well, but there are possible solutions being borough up to the surface.
Daan Roosegaarde is a Dutch designer that has an innovative bid to address airborne pollutants. He takes them directly out of the air with a Smog Free Tower. These massive tower filters intake air, making it 75% cleaner and more breathable. The Smog Free Tower can filter 30,000 cubic meters of air per hour. (1)
Smog Free Tower technology is like indoor air purifier technology, but it has been up-scaled to become the largest vacuum cleaner in the world. The most beautiful part of Daan’s project is that it doesn’t look at the collected smog as waste, but as another useful resource. In Daan’s own words “Waste, in the future, should not exist”. The project goes as far as selling rings, that are made with the pressurized carbon collected from 1,000 cubic meters of air.
